Corte Giacobbe Pinot Grigio Ramato 2013

Tenuta Corte Giacobbe Pinot Grigio Ramato 2013 comes from the Dal Cero’s estate that is located at “the feet” of the Lessini hills in Veneto. This Pinot Grigio Ramato offers the type of minerality that can be be found in the best artisanal Pinot Grigio from the hills of Veneto, but at the same time, the specific wine making technique makes this wine more structured, crispy and tannic.
The grapes are crushed and kept contact with the skin for about twelve hours and then quickly separated, resulting in an interesting slightly copper or orange color. This fermentation technique, which dates back centuries, is not only impacting the color, but has also an impact on the taste: skin contact allows the wine to absorb the characteristics and pigments from the skin—tannins, complex flavor compounds, or even more of the terroir.

This Pinot Grigio has strong body and acidity complements well food, in particular those dishes that could require even a light bodied red, such as Mediterranean dishes with mushrooms, cheeses, and hearty vegetables.

Is this a wine for geeks? What’s “geeky” about this – and other “orange wines” – is that it “offers some of the most compelling and intriguing experiences to be found in a glass” – as Eric Asimov said in a tasting note on orange wines.
